Index Plunges Below Half-Year Moving Average
Taiwan stocks faced heavy selling pressure on the 30th. The weighted index once plunged by more than 1600 points intraday to a low of 44726.26 points, and finally closed down 1156.50 points at 45211.83 points, a drop of 2.49%. The index not only fell below the half-year moving average, but also posted three consecutive weekly declines, while the monthly line also turned negative, with market sentiment turning pessimistic.
Tech Earnings Drag and Rising AI Concerns
This round of declines was mainly affected by U.S. tech earnings. The market is worried that tech giants such as Google and Amazon continue to expand AI capital expenditure, which may not smoothly translate into revenue and profit. In addition, Intel's forecast missed expectations, further intensifying selling pressure on tech stocks and dragging down Taiwan stocks.
Bullish on Fourth-Quarter Thousand-Point Rebound
Moore Investment Advisors Chief Investment Officer Guo Zherong turned bullish against the trend, arguing that this correction mainly reflects excessive market concerns about returns on AI investment, and does not mean the long-term development trend of the AI industry has reversed. He pointed out that Taiwan stocks rose in 9 out of the past 10 fourth quarters, a win rate of 90%. After violent volatility in October, there is still a chance for a thousand-point-level rebound in November and December. Investors need not be overly pessimistic, and there is still a chance to challenge 50000 points by year-end.
Six Watchlist Stocks Diverge
On individual stocks, Guo Zherong named Xintec3374, UMC2303, Faraday Technology3035, Yageo2327, GlobalWafers6488, and Yuanta Taiwan 50 0050 as candidates for the watchlist. However, these stocks performed unevenly on the 30th, with Xintec edging up 0.1% against the trend, UMC down 3.46%, Faraday Technology down 7.78%, Yageo down 7.55%, GlobalWafers down 7.13%, and 0050 down 2.14%, showing stocks still faced volatility amid the market plunge.
Pledge of 10000 Chicken Steaks and Bubble Teas
Regarding the year-end 50000-point target, Guo Zherong previously promised to give away 5000 chicken steaks if Taiwan stocks fail to reach 50000 points by year-end, later adding 5000 cups of bubble tea, for a total of 10000 servings, to be distributed in the north, central and south. He also said that if the market falls below 40000 points, he would consider adding 50 million to buy 0050. Whether Taiwan stocks can stage a rebound in the fourth quarter remains to be verified by the market, and investors should pay attention to volatility and their own risk tolerance.
