Q3 High Season Turns to Loss
AUO reported Q3 consolidated revenue of 668億元, down 6% QoQ and 4% YoY, with gross margin of only 10.1%, both about 2.1 to 2.5 percentage points below research center and market expectations. Quarterly after-tax EPS was -0.33元, swinging to a quarterly loss. Among this, the Display division revenue fell 9.6% QoQ, mainly as notebook computer market demand was hit by both rising memory prices and component shortages. Although TV brand customers actively promoted large-size products, supporting panel shipments, the IT market saw明显 suppressed pull-in momentum as customers still had panel inventories to digest.
Q4 and Loss Forecasts Extended to 2027
Entering Q4, operations remain challenging. Analysts revised down the 4Q26 revenue forecast by 8% to 640億元, with Display shipments expected to fall 7% QoQ, and sharply cut quarterly EPS from the originally expected 0.05元 to -0.34元. Analysts noted that notebook demand impacted by high memory prices and PCB shortages is expected to persist into 2027 with little relief, and therefore also cut profit forecasts, lowering 2026 and 2027 EPS to -0.64元 and -0.95元 respectively, versus prior estimates of 0.08元 and 0.42元, turning from profit to loss, with consecutive losses likely extending into 2027.
Transformation Layout Lifts Valuation to 38元
Despite the conservative traditional panel outlook, AUO is actively advancing diversified new-product portfolio development. In Micro LED, European automakers have showcased application products, with a 4.5-generation high-resolution production line expected to be completed in 2027, and automotive products set for larger volume output in 2028. Its optical communication layout covers Micro LED and Micro VCSEL high-speed data transmission R&D, while glass-substrate advanced packaging has developed 510X510mm and 310X310mm processes. In addition, the board recently approved 57億元 in capital expenditure, totaling nearly 300億元 invested in new-product R&D. Analysts are positive on the diversified布局, although significant contributions will only emerge after 2028, noting its business is no longer that of a pure panel maker, raising the target P/B ratio from 1.2x to 1.9x and, based on 2027 book value per share of 20.46元, assigning a target price of 38元, with investment rating maintained at Hold-Outperform.
