Four-Party Joint Venture Establishes New Company
Walsin Lihwa announced today (3) that it has joined hands with Century Energy Equipment, Kaori Heat Treatment Industry and Taifeng Trading to jointly establish "Walsin Century Nuclear Energy Systems Co., Ltd.", with a signing ceremony held today to integrate Taiwan's related supply-chain resources and technological capabilities and capture global nuclear industry development opportunities. Walsin Lihwa said the new company will be majority-owned by Walsin Lihwa, with capital increases to be made depending on operating conditions. In the future, it will integrate the professional technologies and industrial resources of each partner, leverage complementary advantages, promote supply-chain collaboration, and actively expand domestic and overseas market opportunities.
Responding to AI Power Demand and Decarbonization Needs
Walsin Lihwa pointed out that as the global energy transition accelerates and rapid artificial intelligence development drives electricity demand higher, stable power supply and decarbonization have become key issues in national energy policies, with nuclear energy becoming an important option balancing low carbon and supply resilience. This joint venture is a forward-looking deployment in nuclear-related industries to build a national team for the nuclear supply chain. The company stressed that it will leverage its nuclear certification, materials supply experience and track record to help the joint-venture partners and the new company establish complete nuclear supply-chain certification, further integrating the supply chain and supply capabilities.
Integrating Materials and Heavy-Component Manufacturing Strengths
In terms of division of labor, Walsin Lihwa possesses internationally nuclear-certified materials capabilities and supply track record, and can provide high-end materials such as stainless steel, nickel-based alloy materials, pipes and nuclear-grade cables. Century Energy Equipment cultivated Taiwan's top welding team during the offshore wind power localization process, and owns extensive harbor hinterland and a dedicated heavy-component transport wharf, facilitating large equipment manufacturing and exports. It has also introduced ASME nuclear facility component manufacturing certification and authorized inspection services provided by TÜV Rheinland. Kaori Heat Treatment Industry has long focused on heat transfer and fluid technologies, as well as thermal management technologies in high-temperature, high-pressure environments, with core capabilities in metal processing, precision manufacturing and welding, and has accumulated development and manufacturing experience in power generation systems and high-end heat exchanger products. Taifeng Trading has long cultivated energy-related industrial markets and actively participated in the nuclear industry.
Targeting SMR and International Market Opportunities
Walsin Lihwa noted that in recent years the world has recognized nuclear energy as an indispensable energy source, with rapid development of emerging technologies such as small modular reactors and microreactors, making nuclear supply-chain integration and localization capability building a development trend. Taiwan's past promotion of nuclear construction has accumulated a certain industrial base and technological capabilities, which can now continue to deliver benefits from resources invested over the past 60 years through reintegration. Walsin Lihwa further said it will combine its UK subsidiary's cooperation experience with aerospace and nuclear giant Rolls-Royce to establish manufacturing, assembly and component supply capabilities for small modular reactors and microreactor-related equipment, as well as its cooperation with other well-known European nuclear companies and track record of long-term supply to European nuclear power plants, to further expand international nuclear industry development opportunities.
