Trump Announces Formation of Super-Intelligence Task Force
U.S. President Trump announced the formation of an atypical artificial intelligence project team called the "Super-Intelligence Task Force," responsible for coordinating federal government actions in the field of super-intelligence to ensure the United States continues to lead the world. He stressed that the technology's impact will surpass the Industrial Revolution and the Internet, vowing to fully advance U.S. dominance in AI while defending the lives and interests of the American people and keeping the United States ahead globally.
Meeting Tech Giants to Sign Charter for Self-Regulation
Trump previewed last month that a task force would be formed in response to emerging technology concerns, and last week met at the White House with chief executives of several top technology companies, revealing that a "charter" has been signed with six companies to jointly set self-regulatory standards. As the technology has developed rapidly, some tech giant executives have previously expressed concerns and called for federal regulatory intervention. However, Trump's statement did not specify the task force's future regulatory direction or enforcement actions for AI development, and U.S. media had not received an immediate response after seeking verification from the White House.
Interagency Leadership Drawing on Financial Regulatory Model
The task force spans national security, trade and defense, led by Director of National Intelligence Clayton, with members including Federal Trade Commission Chair Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Cooper. Clayton, seen as the White House's new "AI czar," stressed that the cost of falling behind is extremely high, and once the lead is lost, known and unknown risks especially from hostile forces will rise sharply, and only by staying first can the challenges be better addressed on behalf of the American people.
Coordinating Government-Business Communication, Reviewing Regulations for Legislation
In addition to ensuring the leading position, the task force will also coordinate communication between the federal government and consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure operators and super-intelligence companies. Clayton said the task force will build mechanisms through dialogue in the future, drawing on the risk models established by the Federal Reserve and the Securities and Exchange Commission in the financial industry, while reviewing existing regulations and discussing possible actions by Congress. He expressed strong confidence in the members' cross-disciplinary expertise, stressing the team will go all out with the goal of helping the United States win this AI race and returning the results to all Americans.
