Market Opens High, Closes Higher in Volatile Session
Taiwan stocks showed an open-high, move-lower pattern on the 27th. Boosted by gains in US stocks, the market surged over 544 points in early trading, then selling pressure emerged, quickly narrowing gains, briefly turning negative intraday, and finally closing up 54.8 points, about 0.12%, at 46096.23 points, with turnover reaching 9765.47億元. The market opened up 169.77 points at 46211.2 points, hit an intraday high of 46585.45 points, up 544.02 points, and climbed back above the flat line after continued late-session volatility.
Diverging Institutional Flows
The three major institutional investors posted combined net buying of 31.43億元, showing a split with foreign selling and investment-trust buying. Foreign investors sold net for 2 straight trading days, selling net 81.03億元 today; investment trusts bought net for 11 straight trading days, buying net 236.45億元 today, the largest net buying among the three major institutional investors. Proprietary dealers ended an 11-trading-day selling streak, turning from selling to buying with net buying of 7.68億元; hedge-related proprietary trading sold net for 13 straight trading days, selling net 131.67億元 today.
Investment Trust Buys and Sells
Investment-trust stock operations were mixed on buys and sells. The top five net buys were 力積電, 凱基金, 日月光投控, 友達 and 台泥, covering semiconductors, financials and traditional industries, showing buying spread across different sectors. The top five net sells were 兆豐金, 長榮航, 聯電, 華航 and 台塑化, including financial, airline and semiconductor-related stocks.
Global Markets and Heavyweights
US stocks rose across the board on Monday, as news that AI startup Anthropic filed for an initial public offering fueled enthusiasm for AI investment, with all four major indexes closing higher, including the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index up over 2.8%. Asian stocks opened strongly on the 27th, with Korean stocks surging nearly 4% at one point and Japanese stocks rising over 1,000 points. Small- and mid-cap stocks also opened higher and moved lower. The OTC index opened up 2.19 points at 383.88 points, and closed down 2.49 points, about 0.65%, at 379.2 points, with turnover of 1814.8億元. The top five by volume were 友達, 力積電, 群創, 聯電 and 台玻; the top five by turnover value were 台積電, 聯發科, 南亞, 欣興 and 南茂. Market heavyweight 台積電 opened down 5 yuan at 2380 yuan, hit an intraday high of 2405 yuan, and closed up 15 yuan, about 0.63%, at 2400 yuan, contributing about 118 points to the broader market. 聯發科 will hold an online investor conference this Friday, with a wait-and-see mood ahead of the briefing, closing down 50 yuan, about 1.25%, at 3960 yuan. 台達電 opened down 25 yuan at 1535 yuan, and closed down 50 yuan, about 3.21%, at 1510 yuan.
