U.S. Plunge Drags Taiwan Stocks Lower at Open
Affected by a broad plunge at the close of U.S. stocks, with especially heavy selling pressure on technology stocks, Taiwan stocks faced fierce selling pressure at the open on the 6th, with the weighted index opening at 38915.76 points, down 2658.96 points from the previous trading day, a decline of about 6.40%. It further fell to an intraday low of 37837.05 points, down 3737.67 points from the previous close, a drop of 8.99%, with market selling pressure rising markedly.
Intraday Swing of Over a Thousand Points
Taiwan stocks today both opened and peaked at 38915.76 points, falling to a low of 37837.05 points, for an intraday high-low spread of 1078.71 points. The weighted index closed at 41574.72 points on the previous trading day, showing that following the plunge in U.S. technology stocks, the market faced sharp correction pressure right at the open, with losses expanding further during the session.
Heavyweight Electronics Stocks Weaken Together
Among heavyweight stocks, TSMC fell 215 yuan to 2025 yuan, down 9.6%. MediaTek fell 345 yuan to 3115 yuan. Hon Hai fell 22 yuan to 213 yuan. The three major heavyweight electronics stocks weakened in tandem, deepening the decline in the weighted index and reflecting concentrated selling pressure on semiconductor and heavyweight groups.
Cautious Mood Across Semiconductor Supply Chain
Looking back at the previous U.S. trading day on the 5th, the Nasdaq Composite Index plunged 5.52%, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index slumped 12.25%, and TSMC ADR also fell sharply, weighing on investment sentiment toward Taiwan's semiconductor and AI supply chains. Notably, the 52-week high for Taiwan stocks is 49968.92 points, and today's intraday low is about 24.28% below that high. The market will subsequently watch whether heavyweight stocks can stabilize, and whether transaction value and the number of limit-down stocks continue to expand.
