Taiwan Active ETFs Reach NT$994.7 Billion
According to the latest statistics from the Securities Investment Trust and Consulting Association and J.P. Morgan Asset Management, as of end-September this year, Taiwan's active ETF assets totaled NT$994.7 billion, approaching the NT$1 trillion mark. Of which Taiwan equity products accounted for NT$826.8 billion, about 83%, still highly concentrated in Taiwan equities, showing domestic capital remains focused on the local market, while the overall landscape faces an opportunity for structural change.
Cross-Border Bond Funds Up 39.33% in Single Quarter
Looking at changes in the second half of the year, total assets grew from NT$961.5 billion at end-June to NT$994.7 billion at end-September, up about 3.5% quarter-on-quarter. Taiwan equity funds remained dominant at NT$826.8 billion, up 3.27% quarter-on-quarter, while overseas equity funds held steady at a high of NT$143.2 billion. Most notable were cross-border bond products, whose assets grew from NT$17.8 billion at end-June to NT$24.8 billion, a quarterly growth rate of 39.33%, showing investors have gradually moved beyond their comfort zone to overseas equities and fixed-income markets.
US ETFs Surpass US$16.3 Trillion
The global ETF market continued to grow rapidly, with US assets officially surpassing US$16.3 trillion at end-September this year, surging more than 130% from the US$7 trillion level in 2024. In terms of flows, the US market attracted US$33.9 billion in net inflows in September alone, remaining the core magnet for capital. Developed markets saw monthly net inflows rise from US$17.6 billion in June to US$22.4 billion in September, up 27%, with Europe, Japan and other markets rapidly gaining favor.
Diversified Allocation Becomes Global Norm
By contrast, emerging markets attracted only US$1.3 billion in net inflows in September, with momentum clearly cooling. J.P. Morgan Asset Management noted the rapid growth of the ETF market reflects not just more products, but a full evolution in investors' use of ETF strategies. Where the focus was once on passive products tracking broad benchmarks, investors now embrace diverse strategies including active ETFs, meeting both asset growth and cash-flow income needs through global allocation, as the allocation map accelerates from single-market to global, entering an era of broad diversification.
