Electronics Heavyweights Ignite, Market Opens High and Moves Higher
Boosted by a strong rebound in U.S. semiconductor stocks, Taiwan stocks opened higher and moved higher on Wednesday in an oversold rebound. The index surged 939 points to close at 47,035, reclaiming multiple moving averages, with market sentiment clearly warming. Electronics heavyweights were the biggest contributors, driving IP, memory, cooling, networking and other groups sharply higher in unison.
Volume Shrinks to 722.1 Billion, Sustainability of Rebound in Question
Local institutions noted that despite the strong rebound reclaiming moving averages, market turnover shrank to 722.1 billion, which may limit the rebound's sustainability. As the index approaches the quarterly line and the upper edge of the recent consolidation range, overhead lock-up pressure remains significant. In the short term investors are advised to stay cautious, rotate out of weakness on the rebound, and focus on upcoming heavyweight earnings and international meeting developments.
Strong Stocks Lead, Panels and Substrates Trade Actively
On the stock front, 金像電 (2368) surged 9.72%, 創意 (3443) and 智原 (3035) rose about 9.96% and 9.92% respectively, while 敬鵬 (2355) hit limit-up. Among high-volume popular stocks, 友達 (2409) jumped 6.28%, 群創 (3481) rose 4.76%, 聯電 (2303) rose 4.49%, and 力積電 (6770) rose 2.74%, with overall active trading showing funds focused on electronics stocks including 中電.
Traditional Sectors and Weak Stocks Pull Back, Control Risk Strictly
In contrast to the broad strength in electronics, some traditional sectors and specific stocks were weak. Bicycle industry recovery momentum remains soft, with technicals yet to reclaim major moving averages, warranting continued caution. On the decliners side, 欣銓 (3264) fell 4.23%, 興富發 (3452) fell 3.24%, 台塑化 (2835) and 寶成 (9904) corrected 2.83% and 2.7% respectively, and 玉山金 (2884) closed lower down 2.22% in choppy trading, showing rapid sector rotation and the need to strictly control downside risk.
