U.S. Midterm Elections Affect Industry Direction
The world is watching the U.S. midterm elections, with results set to determine control of the House and Senate starting next January. Even with Trump still holding the White House, if the Democratic Party wins either chamber, it could change the direction of congressional investigations and oversight, affecting industries such as defense, AI, and healthcare. Wait-and-see sentiment caused U.S. stock futures to dip slightly in premarket trading, as markets await the election results.
Institutions on Post-Election Market Outlook
JPMorgan previously noted that if Democrats win both the House and Senate, and investors have not fully priced in that outcome, it could pressure the broader market, with AI stocks particularly vulnerable; if Republicans retain the Senate or control both chambers, the market could see a short-term rally. However, some analysts believe that the release of the election results itself will help reduce uncertainty, providing breathing room for recently pressured stocks. In terms of U.S. market closes, the Dow Jones fell 197.26 points to 51,786.72 points; the Nasdaq rose 207.65 points to 25,372.01 points; the S&P 500 rose 27.52 points to 7,568.92 points; the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 272.07 points to 10,600.40 points.
