Morning session breaks below 40000 points to set record
Taiwan stocks today (6th) hit by the global stock market crash saw a historic plunge in early trading. The index opened at 38,915.76 points, down 2,658.96 points at the open, directly breaking below the 40000-point integer mark. Selling pressure continued to expand during the session, with the low falling to 37,837.05 points and the largest intraday decline reaching 3,737.67 points, setting the largest intraday point drop in Taiwan stock history, while also falling below the annual line at about 38,827 points, and the market briefly fell into panic.
Midday sharp rebound of over 2400 points narrows losses
As bargain-hunting buying entered during the session, the decline gradually narrowed. According to midday quotes, Taiwan stocks recovered to around 40,302.75 points, rebounding about 2,465.70 points from the intraday low, with the decline narrowing sharply from over 9% at the deepest morning level to about 3.1%. Trading volume remained high, showing intense bull-bear battle, with some funds starting to enter, but whether the market has truly stabilized remains to be seen, and panic sentiment eased slightly.
International bearish factors pressure Asian stocks
This plunge was mainly affected by the across-the-board plunge of the four major US stock indexes on the 5th, with Asian股市 under pressure simultaneously, Japanese and Korean股市 opening sharply lower, and Taiwan stocks unable to escape. In addition, the US midterm election results may bring variables to artificial intelligence data center policy, with the market raising doubts about technology industry investment prospects and international fund flows, further intensifying selling pressure, with technology stocks becoming the main source of cash withdrawal.
National Stabilization Fund and central bank moves in focus
Facing the plunge, attention is on whether the National Stabilization Fund will enter the market early to support prices. Deputy Finance Minister and National Stabilization Fund Executive Secretary Juan Ching-hua said this decline was mainly affected by international股市, and will continue to closely monitor domestic and foreign funding conditions, and if irrational, disorderly declines or even a collapse of investor confidence occur, convening an interim committee meeting is not ruled out. He stressed that Taiwan's industrial performance is good, and the overall economy is in a relatively good stage in more than 10 years. Central bank Governor Yang Chin-long, when asked about the crash while attending questioning at the Legislative Yuan, responded "Don't ask me, ask the FSC," and said "There is no problem," making the FSC's subsequent market-stabilization actions the focus.
