Taiwan Stocks Plunge 829 Points in a Week, Fall Below Half-Year Line
Taiwan stocks faced heavy selling pressure from October 27 to 30, with the index plunging 1156.50 points on Friday to close at 45211.83, down 2.49%. For the week, the index fell 829.60 points, or 1.80%, marking three straight weekly declines. According to Taiwan Stock Exchange statistics, the three institutional investors sold a net 1878.80 billion yuan this week, including 1733.65 billion yuan by foreign investors, about 83.1 billion yuan by dealers, while only investment trusts bought a net 68.587 billion yuan against the trend. Selling pressure was concentrated in semiconductors, panels and some traditional industry stocks. With the index falling below the half-year line, whether funds will continue to withdraw has become the focus of market attention.
UMC Cut by 200,000 Lots to Rank as Top Net-Sold Stock
Foundry UMC (2303) was sold a net 200,794 lots by the three institutional investors this week, becoming the top net-sold stock. Foreign investors sold about 109,500 lots, and investment trusts also sold about 84,100 lots, with both reducing holdings simultaneously. UMC fell 4 yuan on Friday to close at 111.5 yuan, down 3.46%. Electronics stocks became the hardest-hit area for institutional cash-outs, and the loosening of UMC's chips reflects greater adjustment pressure on the semiconductor group.
Panel Duo Lose 154,000 Lots
The panel group also could not escape selling pressure. AUO (2409) was sold a net 110,013 lots by the three institutional investors this week, with its share price hitting limit-down on Friday to close at 30.65 yuan. Innolux (3481) was sold 43,952 lots, plunging 7.50% on Friday to close at 42.55 yuan, with combined outflows of about 154,000 lots. In addition, memory stock Macronix (2337) was sold 40,5508 lots, falling 4.6% on Friday to close at 95.4 yuan. Glass stock Taiwan Glass (1802) was reduced by 41,162 lots, rising 0.48% against the trend on Friday to close at 62.3 yuan, relatively resilient.
Top Ten Net-Sold List Dominated by Electronics and Traditional Stocks
According to Taiwan Stock Exchange data, the 6th to 10th net-sold stocks this week were Delta Electronics (2308) with 18,782 lots sold, Zhen Ding-KY (4958) with 18,781 lots sold, Nan Ya (1303) with 15,106 lots sold, Compeq (2313) with 12,541 lots sold, and China Petrochemical (1314) with 11,004 lots sold. Overall, institutional reductions covered both electronics and traditional industries, with weak short-term chips. Investors should evaluate carefully and bear their own investment risks.
