Regular Investment Scale Continues to Expand
According to data from the Securities Investment Trust and Consulting Association, as of August 2026, the number of ETF regular investment trading accounts jumped from 249.8萬 in January this year to 352.8萬, while deductions increased from NT$198.37億元 to NT$308.05億元. Regular investment has gradually become one of the ways for local investors to participate in long-term stock market growth, with Taiwan equity ETFs the most favored by investors.
Benefiting from AI investment tailwinds, Taiwan stocks that "sell shovels" have risen over 70% year-to-date with strong performance, also reflected in investors' preferred targets. In the current regular investment market, passive Taiwan equity ETFs account for 82.5% of total trading accounts, passive overseas equity ETFs 7.7%, active Taiwan equity ETFs 7.1%, passive overseas bond ETFs 1.4%, and active overseas equity ETFs 1%, showing passive Taiwan equity ETFs are highly expected by investors.
009816 Becomes Regular Investment Dark Horse
Looking at popular ETF regular investment targets since this year, besides many familiar names, the KGI Taiwan TOP 50 ETF Fund (009816) has emerged as a dark horse and one of the new favorites for regular investment. Listed in February this year, KGI Taiwan TOP 50 (009816) broke into the top 10 ETF regular investment trading accounts ranking just 2 months after its debut, and surpassed its own milestone in September this year with trading accounts exceeding 10萬.
Rate Turn Fuels Rally
In mid-September, U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Walsh raised rates by one碼 for the first time in his tenure, lifting the policy rate to 3.75% to 4.00%. Once uncertainty over rate policy settled, sidelined funds flowed back, the index rose past its previous high, and market sentiment clearly shifted from wait-and-see to积极, with the shift in rate expectations the key driver of this rally.
Looking ahead, U.S. September nonfarm payrolls added only 2.9萬 jobs, far below market expectations, with July and August combined revised down by 6萬, and the unemployment rate rising to 4.2%. Market bets on another rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve in October have clearly cooled. The market generally expects listed Taiwan companies to still post high double-digit profit growth next year. The KGI Taiwan TOP 50 (009816) ETF research team notes that margin balances in Taiwan have returned to above NT$6,000億元, and with election years in both the U.S. and Taiwan this year, market noise may amplify short-term volatility. Investors are advised to use regular investment to capture a basket of leading companies through market-cap Taiwan equity ETFs, deploying in batches to diversify cost risk and continue participating in Taiwan's growth curve.
