AI Interviews Target Hiring Pain Points
30-year-old Rommadon Teedo founded the AI hiring and job platform "AscendJob" in 2022, bringing AI into resume screening and interviews to help companies recruit. He said many Thai companies face large applicant pools that HR departments cannot interview one by one, while AI can conduct interviews around the clock without time constraints on either side. After a company provides company information, job requirements and about 5 to 10 initial questions, AI can ask follow-up questions based on the conversation and analyze candidates' hard and soft skills to quickly identify suitable hires.
Initial Screening Still Needs Human Review
Rommadon said some companies have all applicants take an AI interview first before selecting suitable candidates. He stressed that AI interviews are currently mainly used for initial screening, and companies should arrange another interview to further assess work attitude, teamwork and interpersonal communication skills. He admitted promotion has not been easy, as the main clients are HR departments and some staff worry AI threatens their jobs, requiring time to explain that adoption aims to reduce repetitive work, not replace people.
70% of SMEs Test the Waters, Only About 10% at Advanced Stage
The Bangkok Post reported in October on an article by True Corporation CEO Sigve Brekke, citing research that about 70% of Thai SMEs have started using or testing AI, but only about 9% have reached the advanced application stage, showing ample room for deepening. Rommadon said the company mainly serves two types of clients: one is businesses with many branches and high employee turnover, such as beauty stores and insurance companies, and the other is technology and innovation firms seeking top talent.
Instant POS Report Generation Competes on Efficiency
Another AI integration and corporate digital transformation consultancy, "Gomusoft," focuses on operational data applications. Founder and Chief Innovation Officer Chalat Luprasit said the company was founded about 5 to 6 years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting from software development to AI integration and providing AI courses and solutions to corporate employees. He gave an example that when developing a point-of-sale intelligence system with partners, they found restaurants and cafes urgently needed different operational reports but development manpower and time were limited; after introducing AI to generate reports in real time, operators could obtain needed information faster.
Skills Gap and Transformation Resistance Remain
Chalat said Thai companies vary in AI adoption, with some still at the chat-tool stage. Finding practical business use cases is a major challenge, and whether employees can adapt to new ways of working is equally important. Some employees accustomed to existing processes may resist, requiring gradual rollout. He believes AI should help handle repetitive work so people can focus on higher-value tasks. The Nation reported in October that the unemployment rate for those aged 15 to 24 with a bachelor's degree or above reached 13% to 14%, as AI is changing companies' skill demands and workers must keep learning and adjusting their capabilities.
