Both Voice and Video Can Be Recorded
The LINE mobile app has added a call recording feature. Users can record audio during one-on-one voice calls, and record video simultaneously during video calls. Simply update the mobile app to version 26.16.0 or above, go to the home page and tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner to open Settings, find LINE Labs to enable the feature, with no need to install additional audio or video recording tools. After setup, during a call, use the call recording option on the screen to start recording audio or video.
Starting Recording Will Notify Both Parties
As call content involves personal privacy, LINE has set up a reminder mechanism. When one party starts recording, the system will notify both parties via a voice prompt that recording is in progress, to avoid being recorded without awareness. LINE also reminds that users on older versions of the app may not properly receive recording notifications. If you are concerned about being recorded without receiving a reminder, it is recommended to update LINE to the latest version as soon as possible to ensure notifications work properly.
Recording Time Varies by Quality
For recording specifications, voice calls can be recorded for up to 1 hour. Video calls vary by quality: up to 20 minutes when using 720p quality, or up to 50 minutes when using 480p quality. Users can adjust quality based on actual needs. After recording is completed, the system will convert the call content to MP4 video format and send it to Keep Notes, where both parties can view it. Users can also check related files via the call recordings page for easy searching and management later.
Switch to Paid Plan Starting Late January Next Year
Currently all eligible users can experience the call recording feature for free, but the free service is not permanent. LINE plans to end the trial in late January 2027, when call recording will be included in the LINE Premium membership service, with a monthly fee of 165 yuan. LINE also reminds non-paying members to note the retention period for recorded files. Recordings made during the free trial will be deleted after the trial ends, while LINE Premium members can retain related content through the advanced backup feature.
